Kidsgrove once again showed their character to earn their third point of the season.
The visitors had much the better of the first period and created four good chances to open the scoring.
Kyle Blake was allowed to run into the home area only to see his effort rebound to safety from the inside of the post. Then Paul McMullen headed narrowly over, Chris Peel had a headed effort saved by Danny Read and Yannick Makota beat Read to a cross only to miss the target.
Kidsgrove gradually worked their way into the game and the visitors survived a strong penalty appeal when Marlon Agostinho went down.
New signing Tom Urwin was prominent. An inswinging corner caused Callum Burton problems. Urwin then was off-target following a good run before having a shot saved.
In a more even second period Urwin again had a shot on target and Kevin Street was narrowly wide with a free-kick from 25 yards.
Nathan Chinn-Shaw could have stolen the points when he was picked out by a cross only to head wide from a good position. But Read had to make a good save in the dying seconds to preserve a point for his side.
