For the second match running Grove showed their character to come from behind and take a point.
Ant Buckle was forced to make a number of changes and this contributed to a disjointed first-half performance. Athletic seemed to have weathered the storm only to concede with the last meaningful kick of the first half. Danny Read seemed to have rescued his side when he made a stop from close range but was unable to hold on to the ball and David Blenkinsopp was able to net the loose ball.
Ironically the goal was scored in time added on for treatment to Nick Ward who received lengthy treatment after being the victim of a terrible tackle from Jamie Greenway.
Just minutes before that the Grove's best move of the half saw Alan Nagington head Aiden Matranga's cross narrowly over.
Nagington was to play a prominent part in the equaliser being brought down in the area as he was about to pull the trigger. Matt Haddrell stepped up to convert the spot-kick in his own inimitable style.
Kidsgrove deserved a point for their second-half performance but almost returned home empty-handed> Aaron Forde showed quick feet to beat the keeper only to see his effort bounce to safety from the inside of the post.
