Kidsgrove suffered their second consecutive defeat after a narrow 1-0 defeat to play-off chasing Spalding United at the Novus Stadium.
The Grove started the match the better of the two sides with captain Anthony Malbon using his skill to beat Paul Walker but his effort was tipped over by Michael Duggan in the Tulips goal.
Dan Skelton’s lofted ball into the box was met by Kyle Diskin at the back post but his shot was well saved again by Duggan.
Ten minutes before the interval, great link-up play between Ross Davidson and Harry Clayton allowed Malbon through on goal but his shot was again saved.
The second-half was more tentative with both teams reluctant to throw too many players into attack.
It was more of a physical battle in the latter stages of the match with yellow cards for Lewis Bergin and Jordan Benton.
However on 73 minutes following a debatable challenge on Grove’s Clayton, Bradley Wells released Conor Higginson whose shot bounced off Chris Martin and follow-up allowed Cenk Acar an easy tap-in.
Fifteen minutes from time and Spalding had a chance to double their lead after a long ball from defence allowed Acar in, he took on Ryan Austin but his shot was well saved by Martin.
The result all but ends Grove’s play-offs chances whilst preserving Spalding’s play-off spot.
Kidsgrove will next face Belper Town at the Churchmeadow Stadium on Saturday 15th April, kick-off at 3pm.
