Kidsgrove Athletic suffered their second consecutive defeat after losing 2-1 to local rivals Newcastle Town at the Lyme Valley Stadium.
Grove started the match positively with Harry Clayton shooting narrowly wide from 25-yards out after six minutes. Shortly after a throw-in from Ross Davidson allowed Clayton to turn his defender and hit a half volley which went wide of the far post.
After 26 minutes, captain Anthony Malbon was able to flick on the ball from Chris Martins goal-kick, allowing Clayton in one-on-one but his shot was well saved by Dave Parton in the Newcastle goal.
Three minutes before the interval and a nice lay-off by Malbon to Marc Grocott on the edge of the penalty box, allowed him to drill his shot low into the bottom left corner and put Grove a goal up.
Kidsgrove were dealt a massive blow as captain Malbon was forced off on 45 minutes with a pulled hamstring.
Four minutes into the second-half and Kidsgrove had a chance to double their lead as Leon Ashman headed narrowly over from a Kyle Diskin corner.
Just over the hour mark, Lee Cropper hit his shot straight at Martin but Kyle Blake was able to get on the end of the rebound and blasted the ball into the top left corner.
Newcastle were starting to get back into the match and substitute Tom Urwin received the ball 25-yards out and was able to turn his defender and strike from range but his shot was well saved by Martin.
With 12 minutes to go in the match, Newcastle were awarded a free-kick and Danny Cocks was able to strike well into the bottom right corner and put Town into the lead.
The result means Kidsgrove move down to eleventh in the table whilst Newcastle Town move up to fourth. The Grove will next face AFC Rushden and Diamonds on Saturday at the Novus Stadium.
