Kidsgrove ran riot at The Novus Stadium after Anthony Malbon and Kyle Diskin score braces to beat travelling Lincoln United 7-2.

Kidsgrove ran riot at The Novus Stadium after Anthony Malbon and Kyle Diskin score braces to beat travelling Lincoln United 7-2.

Grove took the lead in the second minute after Dan Skelton chested it down on the edge of the box and his half volley left Lincoln goalkeeper, Jake Turner rooted to the spot.

On the fifth minute Lincoln equalised through Sean Cann. The ball wasn’t properly cleared by the Grove defence and Cann was there to finish for the away side.

The game changed on the 16th minute when Lincoln midfielder, Daniel Brookes went in late on Marc Grocott and a sending off was the only choice for the match referee. From the resulting free-kick, Diskin scored his first goal of the night, curling the ball low in to the bottom corner.

On the half hour mark, right back Lewis Bergin played a first time ball allowing Malbon to beat the offside trap, coolly rounding the keeper before slotting home, making the score 3-1.

Kidsgrove, brimming with confidence at this stage, began to turn on the style and on the 39th minute Malbon played his part in another goal, assisting strike partner Harry Clayton. Clayton used his quick feet to baffle defenders before firing the ball in to the back of the net.

The half time whistle couldn’t have come quick enough for the away team and they would have been happy going in to the break having only conceded four.

Manager, Ryan Austin’s team talk would have been clear, to start the second half the way that they finished the first; and his team did just that.

Five minutes in to the second half, Malbon carried the ball from deep spreading the ball across to winger Diskin. The winger made his way in to the box and launched a low driven shot across the keeper in to the back of the net.

Just two minutes later, Bergin and Malbon linked up again. The right back played the ball short to Malbon who hit the back of the net with the outside of his boot, taking his tally for the season to 20.

Joshua Barr-Roston scored on the hour mark for The Whites, but it didn’t spark a comeback as in the 90th minute Arron Johns took the game beyond all doubt, scoring his fourth goal in five games.

Grove move up to 10th in the league table and they will hope to continue their good form as they face Romulus at The Central Ground next Saturday, 3pm kick-off.
