On a lovely sunny early autumn afternoon the early stages did not give a hint of the goalscoring bout that was to take place later in the game, as the first twenty minutes was very much a midfield encounter, and it wasn't until the twenty-fifth minute that either goal was threatened, when a backheel by Steve Hart let Niall Dawkins, returning from an ankle injury, put in a threatening cross which was put out for a corner. In the twenty-eighth minute Dynamo captain Rob Norris centred from the right and Dawkins volleyed home, only to see the linesman's flag rule out his goal for offside.
A minute later Dynamo did take the lead when Luke Edwards received the ball, turned and fired home. Kidsgrove threatened to equalise almost immediately, Andrew Kinsley putting Jordan Johnson in a position to hit a curling shot just too high. Dynamo then hit Kidsgrove on the break, Hart putting Edwards in a position to draw a good save from Kidsgrove goalkeeper Harry Pickering, before Norris set up Hart to draw another fine save from young Pickering.
Just when it looked like Dynamo were threatening to increase their lead Kidsgrove equalised, Daniel Skelton netting with a fine drive from outside the penalty area in the thirty-eighth minute, and took the lead three minutes later when skipper Anthony Malbon was left alone in the Dynamo area. Goalkeeper Joe McCormack made a fine save, but Ant Malbon picked up the rebound to score and give Kidsgrove a 2-1 half time lead, although Edwards saw his shot blocked by Pickering in added time of the half.
Kidsgrove went straight at Dynamo on the restart, McCormack making fine saves from Joe Woolley, Jordan Johnson and Andy Kinsley within the first five minutes of the second half. Just when it looked as if Kidsgrove were about to increase their lead the home side drew level. A fine run by Hart in the fifty-seventh minute saw the Dynamo front man cut in from the right and score with a low shot.
Kidsgrove restored their advantage three minutes later when Andy Kinsley was left unmarked in the centre of the Dynamo area and scored easily. A fourth goal soon followed, in the sixty-fourth minute, when a Kidsgove corner eventually fell at the feet of centre back Lewis Bergin, who lobbed the ball back across goal eluding McCormack. The ball was hacked clear but the referee's assistant ruled the ball had cross the goal line, McCormack's appeal against the goal fell on deaf ears and saw him receive a yellow card for dissent from the referee.
These two goals gave Grove the impetus and we continued to dominate, Jordan Johnson nodding home captain Malbon's right wing centre to make it 5-2 in the seventy-second minute.
The tempo of the match slowed, Kidsgrove looking comfortable, and their sixth goal came in the eighty-fourth minute, Johnson finding himself on his own in the Dynamo area, slotted home his second goal of the game to complete back to back wins.
