Kidsgrove maintain 100% pre-season record with victory over Wolstanton

Kidsgrove 4 v Wolstanton 1 report by Sophie Allen

As we welcomed fans back to the Autonet Insurance stadium, Kidsgrove showed a promising start to the season with a 2-0 lead at half time, taking the final score to 4-1 over Wolstanton United, who are joint managed by former Grove defender Andy Taylor.

Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi got the better of the away side, securing a further lead prior to the 60th minute, this was the strongest goal of the night, stealing top spot from Lewis Bergin, Jake Lovatt and also Ben Chesters.

With the opponents' keeper coming out of the net to stop the home side increasing their lead, spectators knew this was only heading one way. A strong attack from Adu-Gyamfi shot the ball past the keeper and two of Wolstantons defenders, that took the score to 3-0.

With Bergin putting the ball in the back of the net from a free kick in the early minutes of the game, the Grove showed their visitors, Wolstanton, that they were strong and ready for a win.

This was Bergin's second goal from a free kick so far this season, showing promising hopes for everyone at Kidsgrove and a successful new signing to the club as he returns from a year out.

This set the scene for the 80 fans in attendance, braving storm Francis on this rainy Tuesday night. With a lively atmosphere, the weather didn’t stop these fans from returning and getting their fix of football after almost six months of being away from the stands.

Minutes before the halftime whistle was blown, Lovatt doubled the home sides lead from just inside of the box. Taking a well-deserved lead for the stronger side. This set up the Grove for the next 45-minutes.

Ben Chesters scored his first goal for the club. With a confident looking goal out wide, if Chesters keeps the mentality, this could be a promising season for him, where plenty more goals could be on the cards.

Wolstanton scored their only goal of the game five minutes before the final whistle. Slipping through the defence, Kidsgrove were unlucky to not secure a clean sheet in their first 90 minutes in front of fans but stayed strong for the remaining few minutes.

With a strong performance in front of fans, manager Scott Dundas should have high hopes for this season after his side made such a sleek performance securing the win on home turf. Although the league fixtures are yet to be announced, we can sense a successful season here at Kidsgrove Athletic.
