On Sunday, Kidsgrove Athletic proudly hosted the retirement match of our manager and Port Vale legend, Tom Pope, giving him the send off his outstanding playing career deserved.
A true icon at Vale Park, Tom finishes his playing career as Port Vale’s post-war leading goalscorer, a remarkable achievement that cements his place among the club’s all-time greats.
The occasion brought together a Port Vale XI packed with familiar faces, including Louis Dodds, Lee Hughes, Danny Pugh, Carl Dickinson and former NXT wrestler Stu Tomlinson, all of whom helped make the day a memorable celebration.
Supporters were treated to a thrilling encounter, with the All Stars edging a 5-4 win. Despite the best efforts of the All Star goalkeeper Dave Parton to keep him out, there was only going to be one story – Tom Pope got on the scoresheet to round off his playing career in the perfect way.
More important than the result was the opportunity to celebrate everything Tom has achieved throughout his career. Everyone at Kidsgrove Athletic would like to thank the players, supporters, volunteers and everyone involved in making the day such a special occasion.
Congratulations, Tom on a fantastic playing career. We now look forward to the next chapter as you continue to lead Kidsgrove Athletic as manager, and we’re excited to see what the future holds under your guidance.
