After last weeks postponement away at Cleethorpes, the Grove are looking to replicate the success of their last league game, where they romped home to a 5-0 win against Wisbech Town.
Ilkeston are in 6th place after 16 games and this week they appointed a new manager to take charge at the New Manor Ground.
Martin Carruthers has taken charge of the Derbyshire Club after leaving Quorn AFC to take over the day-to-day footballing operations.
Ex-manager Mark Clifford has taken up a new role within Ilkeston in which he’ll be managing the business aspects of the club.
Gaffer Ryan Austin has spoke about the managerial restructure and whether it will affect this weekend’s fixture.
“It will be a tough game as they’re a very organised side. Martin has a good pedigree, his time at Basford United was great so we know what we’re getting ourselves into. But we’re raring to go and looking to take three points.”
After doing some digging through the Kidsgrove Athletic archives, we’ve established club captain and all-time record goalscorer Anthony Malbon is on 142 goals for the club, and Austin spoke about Malbs getting to the magical 150 mark.
“It’s inevitable he’ll get that milestone whether that’s before New Years or not but if keeps playing as well as he has and firing on all cylinders it will only be a matter of time. He contributes more to our team than just goals but we’ll be looking to help him reach that tally as soon as possible.”
The gaffer also spoke about Lewis Bergin who departed the club this week:
“He wanted to get more playing time and I fully understood that. He conducted himself very well and we wish him all the best.”
