A fantastic, all-round performance from Kidsgrove earned themselves all three points in their first game of the season against Colne.
Kidsgrove started the match better of the two sides, with early chances for Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi and one of the seven debutants in this game Jake Chadwick. Some Colne pressure followed these chances but nothing to trouble the Grove keeper Ryan brown.
Kidsgrove’s early chances were rewarded and on the fifteenth minute, a great ball across the pitch found Kyle Diskin who volleyed it across the box and Kieran Brown was there in the middle to tap it home for Kidsgrove first goal of the season and hopefully his first of many this season for the Grove.
Things got better for Kidsgrove as just after the half hour mark, they doubled their lead. Another debutant Jack Derbyshire played a great cross into the box that found Kyle Diskin who shoots firs time, side footed into the top corner leaving the Colne keeper no chance.
Things went from bad to worse for Colne as a couple of minutes after the goal, they were down to 10 men after Harry Jones’s foul on Adu-Gyamfi was deemed a dangerous and reckless by the referee and was given a straight red.
The second half wasn’t full of many chances, but Colne had one of the best as a mistake at the back for Kidsgrove saw the Colne forward Jack Doherty is one on one, gets passed the keeper but Declan O’Riodan shows some great defending and clears his shot off the line.
Kidsgrove still dominated, creating many good chances, while ten man Colne were frustrated with not many chances but when they did have chances shots were fired wildly and nothing to trouble Ryan Brown.
Two goals, clean sheet and a good team performance made the perfect start to the season, and we will be looking to do the same on Tuesday night as we host 1874 Northwich at the Autonet Insurance Stadium in our first home match of the 22/23 season.
