Grove go five unbeaten with a draw at City of Liverpool

City of Liverpool 1 v Kidsgrove Athletic 1

Kingsley Adu-Gyamfi scored his 10th goal of the season as the Grove made it five games unbeaten with a well-earned draw at City of Liverpool.

Adu-Gyamfi found the net just before the half-time whistle following a delightful goal which saw one-touch passes in the build-up, but Zach Aley equalised for the hosts on 52 minutes meaning, that the two teams had to share the points.

The early chances in the game fell to the hosts as Xenon Bahula rattled the crossbar after just eight minutes of play. Meanwhile, forward Josh Quarless headed a free-kick over Ryan Brown's goal.

While at the other end, Adu-Gyamfi had Kidsgrove's first chance of the evening when John Johnston put the striker through on goal. However, he was to pull his shot just narrowly wide of the target.

There was some concern on 30 minutes when left-back Ricky Bridge had to be substituted off after he landed on his head when challenging for the ball. Following several minutes of medical attention, Bridge was brought off for Ethan Padden and was taken to Chester Hospital by ambulance.

The Grove did take the lead on 40 minutes when some neat one-touch passing between Kyle Blake and Johnston saw the latter play the ball through to Adu-Gyamfi, the in-form forward calmly slotted the ball past the onrushing Ollie Martin. It was a super goal and, if it was in the Premier League, then Match Of The Day will be raving about it for some time to come.

However, the hosts were level on 52 minutes when the Grove could only half-clear a corner. Defender Jack Walls was able to cross the ball in and, Zack Aley was able to head home past the dive of Ryan Brown.

Just when it looked like the hosts were going to assert themselves on the game, the balance of play swung once again as on 65 minutes, Josh Murphy went in on Danny Cocks with his studs showing. It left the referee with no option but to send him off.

Kidsgrove looked to make their numerical advantage count in the last twenty minutes as they had several efforts on goal. Adu-Gyamfi hit the post from 25 yards out, while Kieran Brown had an effort scrambled off the line by Ryan Schofield.

In the end, a draw was a fair result and, it was one that the Grove certainly would have taken if offered before kick-off. Scott Dundas and his team now have a mini break before heading to Market Drayton Town next Friday night for their next fixture.
